SCHEDULE & DESCRIPTION OF PYXIDA GCR ACTIVITIES

GREEK LESSONS

Greek for adults & teenagers: A1, A1 +, A2 and B1

In Pyxida, Greek lessons are organized by reference to the level of language learning according to the Common European Framework of Reference (A1, A2, B1, B2) but also on the basis of special characteristics of students and their needs. Participation in a class comes after linguistic and educational evaluation of the interested service users on an individual basis. Special classes are also set up for parents with very young children, evening classes for people who work, classes for women, Greek with an emphasis on employability, etc.

A1 Greek learning course aims at obtaining an Elementary Level (Breakthrough A1) for adults who have no knowledge of Greek. It focuses on the teaching of the Greek alphabet (reading and first ability to write simple or learned words), on the acquisition of daily conversations and basic oral communication skills, and on a first orientation in the environment of Greek grammar.

The program is also addressed to adolescents, touching on age-related issues of interest and taking into account sensitive aspects of their developmental phase.

A1 + Greek lessons for students who ceased attending before completing the A1 course, but have covered much of it. Also to students who have a good level of oral production and comprehension but lag behind asymmetrically in written speech and / or grammar.

A2 Greek language course aims at consolidating and expanding A1 level skills.  It aims at approaching the Introductory Level (Waystage A2). It is addressed to adults who know basic vocabulary and aims at its expansion, and the consolidation of spelled writing, the consolidation of basic grammar (present tenses, articles, nominative, adjectives, adverbs) and the expansion to new grammatical phenomena.

In the case of adolescents, the emphasis falls on authentic texts and dialogues, and on bridges with the school curriculum (taking on the character of remedial teaching).

B1 Greek language course aims at approaching level B1 for advanced students of the Greek language.

Greek for beginners 6-12 ("school without school"). Program of first literacy learning activities in Greek for primary school children who encounter obstacles and are waiting to enroll in public primary school, or who have recently enrolled and are struggling to reach their peers’ level. The program also includes simple conversations in Greek, elementary arithmetic, familiarity with a basic vocabulary with an emphasis on school, as well as other activities to get acquainted with the contents, creative activities and routines of the school curriculum.
